What this tool does

This converter changes a cooking amount from one measurement into another across the units home cooks reach for most: US cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, millilitres, and fluid ounces, plus the international kitchen units — the 250 ml metric cup, the 15 ml metric tablespoon and 5 ml teaspoon, and the 20 ml Australian tablespoon. Type a number, pick the unit you are measuring from and the unit you want, and the result updates live as you type. Use the swap button to flip the two units in one tap — handy when you realise the recipe lists the opposite of what you have. It answers everyday kitchen questions like how many tablespoons are in a cup, how many teaspoons make up a tablespoon, or how many millilitres a fluid ounce holds, so you can scale a recipe without hunting for a chart.

How the conversion works

Every unit is first converted into a single base unit, millilitres, and then out to the unit you asked for. The tool uses the US customary factors cup = 236.588 ml, tablespoon = 14.7868 ml, teaspoon = 4.92892 ml, fluid ounce = 29.5735 ml, and ml = 1, alongside the exact metric factors (metric cup = 250 ml, metric tbsp = 15 ml, metric tsp = 5 ml, Australian tbsp = 20 ml). Because everything passes through one base unit, converting A → B and back B → A returns your original number, and the math is fully deterministic: the same input always gives the same output. Values are shown to six decimal places, so 1 US cup comes out to exactly 16 US tablespoons and 1 US tablespoon to 3 US teaspoons.
